Kerry's Bouqcakes, My first blog

My first blog

Well, here it is… My first EVER blog! Firstly, I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to be here and read this, it means a lot to know that people want to hear (or read) what I have to share.

I’d like to think this blog will have something a little unique to offer, if you know me, you’ll know for the most part I’ll be writing about baking and everything you can possibly think of that relates to baking! So please, pop the kettle on, sit back and enjoy!

Where better to start than to introduce the person behind the piping, I mean you’ve likely seen what I do but it isn’t very often you get to see, well, me!

So, who am I? I’m Kerry and as you well know, I have one of the best jobs in the world, I mean, there are worse things then making beautiful and delicious goodies all day aren’t there? But as well as this I am also a mother to two incredible children Jack 5 and Sophie 3 who I utterly adore, sharing my passion with them is so lovely and something I will always treasure.

If I could name one other thing, I absolutely love to do… it’s travel. I find inspiration in what I see, being lucky enough to visit some amazing countries has absolutely helped me to become more adventurous in my flower designs and colour choices.

I come from a family of hobby bakers. My Grandma made tasty rich fruit cakes and my Grandad’s royal icing turned them into amazing wedding cakes. My mother was a home baker and made novelty cakes mainly for friends and family. It is therefore hardly surprising that I have ventured down the baking route.

So, let’s start at the beginning, to where it all began. I’ve always enjoyed baking and getting a little creative with that all important and super tasty buttercream. I remember my first batch of cakes, eight years ago! They came straight out of a box of ‘ready to bake’ cupcake mix. (My Mum may be horrified by this!!) I was so very impressed with them at the time but I’m proud to say it’s a world apart from what I do now.

Baking soon became a loved hobby of mine, creating little mouthfuls of joy for my work colleagues (who doesn’t love office treats right?). Any event I could get involved in, whether charity based or otherwise, I had the flour at the ready.

The biggest reason behind the bakes, however was to build new friendships. After meeting my wonderful husband or some might say my third child, I chose to relocate from rural Norfolk to the south coast leaving everything I knew behind, friends, family and my job. Feeling like a fish out of water, I restarted my life over again and baking was the little part of home I could bring with me on my new journey. I am pleased to add I am now back in Norfolk but my love affair with cakes has continued.

It was actually one of the amazing new friends I had made that told me I had a talent and should pursue a career in the industry. Emily was the real driving force behind my hobby becoming a business, from setting up my Facebook page and teaching me the ins and outs of social media, to designing my pricing lists to perfection! It was all so overwhelming and brilliant. What could be better than working from home and doing something you love? I jumped straight in at the deep end and would never turn the clock back.

My unique bouquet designs were inspired by my love of fresh flowers. They can be found in almost every corner of my home. I visualise that flower and I use that to design my pipework. Remember when I said I’d been lucky enough to visit some beautiful countries, well, whilst travelling I take the opportunity to take photos of flowers that really catch my eye and turn them into something eye-catching and what’s the best part? They’re edible!
